Newtownards man in Superstar

Newtownards man, Jeff Anderson is hoping to come out on top in Superstar, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s latest show to find a singing sensation.

The 21-year-old has revealed his venture into reality television was inspired by his big brother Kyle, who won the Irish version of Popstars and became part of the band Six.

“He favours rock music but they made him into a pop band, I mean he’s fine with it, it’s great, they did really well, got the fastest selling number one single ever in Ireland,” said Jeff.

Last year, Jeff played the lead in an amateur dramatics production of Jesus Christ Superstar, and he said he enjoyed the “challenge” of singing the part.

“I was a bit obsessed with it, you know like on YouTube 24/7 because of the high falsetto notes.

“It’s just such a challenge to be able to sing like that,” he explained.

The Co Down man added that he was glad Superstar was treating him as himself and “not making me something I’m not”.

The winner of Superstar will have the lead role in a national tour alongside DJ Chris Moyles who will play King Herod.

Former Spice Girl Mel C and comedian Tim Minchin have also signed up to the production, playing Mary Magdalene and Judas.

Jeff will perform in front of judges Dawn French and Jason Donovan, while seasoned audition critic Amanda Holden will host the live heats from Sunday at 8pm – with the first elimination announced on Monday night on UTV.
