Ballywalter Assault

A man has been remanded in custody after a teenager was badly injured by a gang wielding baseball bats at the weekend.

An 18-year-old Co Down man was hospitalised after being attacked by four men with bats and bundled into the boot of a car in Main Street, Ballywalter, on Sunday at around 12.50pm.

The young man sustained two broken arms, broken ribs, and a suspected fractured jaw, before being driven to Greyabbey where he was let out of the vehicle.

The police subsequently arrested four men aged 21, 28, 29 and 30.

David Rush (29), from Bartleys Court, Ballywalter, appeared before Downpatrick Magistrates Court yesterday charged with kidnapping, causing grievous bodily harm with intent and making threats to kill.

The other three men were released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Mr Rush was remanded in custody to appear again at Newtownards Magistrates Court on September 25.

Detectives investigating the attack have appealed to anyone with information to contact them
